Renowned performer and educator Michael Sibanda will be coming through Tacoma this week on his way home from Zimfest! (Home being South Africa in this case.) This is a very special opportunity to learn Zimbabwean vocal and marimba music straight from the source. Below are the workshop details.
Singing & Marimba Workshop
Time: Tuesday, 8/21 6:30-8:00pm
Place: Alma Mater, 1322 Fawcett Ave
Cost: $20/person
Mainly this will be a singing workshop, as there will be a limited number of marimbas available. However, it’s a great chance to learn straight from the source! Drumming and dance may also be taught if there is time and interest.
Marimba & Choir Workshop
Time: Wednesday, 8/22 7:00-8:30pm
Place: Immanuel Presbyterian Church
Cost: free for IPC members, $15-$25 suggested donation for non-members
This workshop will teach an arrangement for marimba and choir, likely a Zulu/Ndebele song. A full set of marimbas will be available for students to play on.
Special thanks to Alma Mater and Immanuel Presbyterian Church for hosting these events. See you there!
